Immediate Essay Tips

Usually immediate essays are brief presentations of the topics given by a teacher. Teachers prefer to give either topics which have been studied during previous lessons (topic’s assessment and knowledge monitoring) or topics which are going to be learnt recently (goal setting and topic acknowledgement). In both cases students are requested to present their own opinion and thoughts regarding the given problem briefly. Such brief presentations are better to be presented in written form because of two reasons: oral forms cannot be available to be listened to due to lesson’s time limit whereas written presentations can all be reviewed by a teacher; writing tasks are good practice for successful study and exams periods.

Immediate writing is usually rejected by students with two reasons: they can find it difficult to concentrate on their thoughts and ideas in a class environment (they are used to write in a silent and isolated environment of their homes or libraries etc.); immediate assignments find students lost as they are not able to form complete phrases and sentences which can be presented and understood by the reader or listener. Thus, students should be learnt how to apply for writing skills in any environment which is even without proper support of extra resources, circumstances etc. Then, students should be taught presentation thinking and writing skills.

The best way to feel comfortable in any environment and start implementing assigned tasks is to change homework environment regularly. It does not mean students should move from one room or place to another each time they start doing homework. Changing some things surrounding students’ working place would be sufficient exercise. For example, if a student is used to do maths with some formulas, rules and completed tasks lying nearby, he/she should move all these papers away and try to do maths without these supporting materials. It is useful to practice his/her memory by remembering the needed formulas instead of finding them in the resources. Another way to change a working environment is to simply replace some things which a student is used to see in definite places for a long time. If such shifts still make you comfortable with learning you are quite successful to study at any environment!

Presentation thinking can be well practiced in both home and class environment. At home students should read the information leant aloud even if there are no any listeners. They must hear themselves! After reading aloud it is useful to outline the information read and try to retell it aloud with the help of outlined summary. It is good training to set up a five minutes time frame for such retelling practice and present the retold story to somebody. If your listener understands what you are talking about in five minutes of your presentation, you become a good speaker and are ready for immediate essay release!
